Work Your Twerk
Let’s talk about trap yoga for a hot second.
First, we should define “trap music” and according to Urban Dictionary; trap music is “a sub-genre of music, originating from South America at around 2000, with influences from hip-hop, dubstep, rap and trance music.”
With that being clarified trap yoga is where the best of two worlds collide: trap music and yoga.
Ash: I have tried out yoga once and was very intimidated because I was not flexible at all. Yoga is slowly becoming part of my life and trap yoga was a big part of it. I want to become flexible because why not? I can add “flexible” to my resume, right?
Nic: Trap. Yoga. Two things I’m not the most knowledgeable of. My twerking skills are comical, and I have never even thought about trying out yoga because of my inflexibility. Buttttt combine the two, and you have the perfect combination of a fun-filled, booty activating workout. While my twerking skills did not improve over our 1 hour class I had a blast with the DJ bumpin some great tunes, and a room full of empowered women letting loose.
Our instructor, Demita was a hoot. Her personality and energy were just as bright as her hair. Also, her twerking skills were just WOW. She led us through breathing exercises, stretches, lunges, squats, and of course, TWERK BREAKS!!!
Their playlist had songs like: Bodak Yellow by Cardi B, Jumpan by Future and Drake, Slippery by Migos and Gucci Mane, Up Down (Do This All Day) by T-Pain, Magnolia by Playboi Carti, Rake it Up by Yo Gotti and Nicki Minaj, Bank Account by 21 Savage, and finished with the classic throwback Apple Bottom Jeans by T-Pain.
So, would we do it again?
Yes, the music, the dancing, the people. It was all great. Tickets were only $10 and came with a cute tote bag. It was definitely a novelty workout that we recommend everyone try at least once. That being said, as college students sometimes we just can’t spare that cash flow, and you may have just as much fun rallying a group of your closest gals, playing a trap music playlist, and following some Youtube tutorials of yoga and twerking.
