Veg Out
This past weekend we visited one of our favorite spots, the Nashville Farmers’ Market. This place is filled with fresh produce, local artisans, and eclectic restaurants. This market is open every day of the week, rain or shine, but we recommend checking them out at one of their monthly Friday night markets, or Saturday mornings. Also, make sure to keep an eye out on their website for their specialty festivals--International Pepperfest, Strawberry Jubilee, and Watermelon Throwdown are just a few of them!
Local Farms
If you need some fresh produce, think about doing your shopping at the Farmers’ Market, as opposed to your grocery store. Oftentimes this is a cheaper alternative, and you can support your local farmers by buying their farm fresh food. Farms from all over the state come here every day to sell to the community. They sell everything from fruit, vegetables, honey, flowers, and more.
Side note from Nic: eating local honey during your allergy season(s) will work wonders, because you are ingesting the local pollen and desensitizing your body from this pollen--AKA eat local honey, and you will no longer suffer from dry eyes, an itchy throat, and a runny nose!
Gardens of Babylon
This sweet spot is tucked in the back of the Farmers’ Market is simply amazing. They’ve got all the plants you would ever want and need, of all shapes, sizes, and colors. The staff is so friendly, AND expert green thumbs. They have trees, flowers, succulents, bushes, pots, soil, if it’s green they have it!
Small Businesses and Local Artists
Oftentimes it’s the small businesses and local artists that have the greatest hidden treasures. I’m talking hand woven clothes, art sold out of a small trailer, hot and ready donuts, and hand crafted pottery. Items that you may not even imagine can be found right here. Some of our favorites that we found this past weekend were:
- Ben Griffith’s watercolor collection--simplistically stunning pieces of art created by Ben, his booth is decked out with bold colors and images
- J Marie’s Jewelry Box--this “treasure hunt” is fun and affordable, check out the $1 rings and brooches we got!
- Moosehead Kettle Corn--plenty of flavors to choose from, they have everything from traditional to birthday cake to caramel apple.
- Fountain of Juice-- Handcrafted juices, mylks and snacks. They have many combinations of fresh pressed juices that are perfect for juice cleanses, clean eating, or just a fresh sip.
A constant theme on this blog is #supportlocal, whether that be artist's, restaurants, merchants, or farmers is up to you! The Nashville Farmers’ Market is a fun place for tourists, locals, young, and old. So if you’re free this weekend make sure to make a pit stop at the Nashville Farmers’ Market--you will not regret it!
