What are we up to this summer?
School’s out!!!!! So we want to give you a small dose of what we’ve been up to so far. We have been relaxing and taking a much needed break. We compiled a list of our current summer favorites for y'all to check out!
Nic: It’s summertime, so I’m riding down the streets with the windows down and my hair flying (everywhere), and Honey by Johnny Balik is bumpin’ on my stereo. I must have listened to this song over 100 times, and it’s still on repeat.
Ash: My go to summer song is Focus by Biyo. They are from Nashville, Tennessee and they give out this very chill vibe. All their sounds during the song make me want to dance! The greatest part was that I was able to see these boys live at Bonnaroo!! Not only did I see him at Bonnaroo but this song just gets me.
What are we eating?
Nic: Anything from Terminal Cafe. I have been OBSESSED with this place for months now. Finally summer is here, so you can catch me here at least once a week. It may be small, but dang everything that comes out of that kitchen is delicious. I love going here for brunch (Rye French Toast, Waffles Benedict, and Fruit Parfaits are just some of my favorites), but you really can’t go wrong with anything from this place as long as you get the brown sugar bacon!! Seating is pretty limited, but the food and atmosphere are completely worth the tight corners. If you have to wait in line, grab an iced honey lavender latte, and explore the amazingly cute shops on the strip.
Ash: Bar Taco located in 12th South - this place is always packed! If you have never been there I highly recommends it. From the tasty tacos to the fresh pineapple this place is in the hub of great good and cute neighborhood. This place has great outdoor sooo seating where you can get a little tan while eating tacos. I go there specifically for the cauliflower taco, and the fresh sweet pineapple. Hint: If you get your tacos with a lettuce shell instead of a corn tortilla this makes you feel super light. You should also order the CHURROS - tasty!
What are we reading?
Nic: I absolutely love reading, but with work and school I usually have to throw reading for pleasure at the bottom of my list. But now I can laze around by the pool or outside and read to my heart’s content. And now that I’m not forced into studying and analyzing textbooks and scholarly journals, I’m reading The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles.
I got into this because I originally watched the movie (a must-see), and soon found that it was based off of a novel! I just began it and am loving the trashy romance and drama so far.
Ash: Although I am not a big reader I have pushed myself to read more, currently reading Generation X Goes to College this book talks about it our generation loves hearing about ourselves which is low key true. This book talks about how we as a generation adjust to every situation and what aspects of life has made us this way. If you are a GenX I suggest reading this book 1. Because you understand yourself and how you make life decisions 2. This is great to show your parents to quit calling you a millennial.
What are we watching?
Nic: I was obsessed with the first season, and here I am finishing up 13 Reasons Why: Season 2. I’m loving the increase in mental health awareness and outlets to get help, because it was VERY lacking in the first season for such a sensitive subject that reached such a high volume of young people. It feels a little redundant so far, but there are definitely some shocking scenes and character development that I am alllll about. I am happy to see such fiery topics being discussed, since it is heavily looked over in out society.
Ash: I finally finished Station 19, Scandal and finally caught up on Grey’s Anatomy, ABC has renewed Grey’s for a 15th season. Hopefully this will be the last season where all our questions and prayers will be answered. My goto movie for this summer is The Kissing Booth. If you haven’t seen this is I highly suggest you have it on your “to watch list” and watch it about 20 times... actually more than that. Plus! This is based off of a book (Nic is currently reading it!).
What are we looking forward to?
Nic: So last month I graduated college!! Post-grad life is scary, yet very exciting. I’m working as a bartender for Dream Events & Catering and Cheekwood Botanical Garden. I am also an Events and Marketing intern for Alliance Sport Marketing. For my internship I am in the office on the weekdays, and traveling across the east coast on weekends at festivals and fairs. I am looking forward to my trip to Europe next month where I’ll spend six weeks traveling from Barcelona to Athens to Ireland, and everywhere in between!
