Tour de Tacos

Heyyyyy, Nic here. Ash is livin’ it up across the seas, leaving me all alone. BUT luckily, my childhood best friend came into town, so I wasn’t too lonely.

Side story: We met on the first day of 1st grade when I was walking to school with my Dad, we were walking down a street when a woman, yelled from her door saying hello and introducing herself. That woman was Brooke’s mom, and we have been best friend ever since.

Our weekend consisted of relaxing at Pinewood Social’s outdoor lounge, hiking to Cummins Falls, taking flights at Diskin Cidery, and eating lots and lots of tacos. One thing you need to know about me and Brooke is that we LOVE tacos (peep this throwback picture of from our high school days at one of our favorite taco shops back home). So naturally, we dedicated our ENTIRE day to tacos, a Tour de Tacos if you will.

Let’s Taco Bout it. “It” being Taco Tuesday, AKA our favorite day of the week. We hit up as many tacos places as we could fit (schedule wise AND stomach wise)...for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. So here we have, an itinerary of our taco-filled adventure. Caution: this is not for the weak, because eating tacos all day is not as easy as it sounds!

11:00AM: Taco Mamacita

Ahhh breakfast tacos. We started the day off right, with a classic taco shop over in East Nashville. They offer their taco special all day every day, with 2 tacos & a side for just $10 (!!!). They offer soooo many options for the adventurous taco lovers. As far as breakfast tacos go I always go for their chorizo & potato breakfast taco. And if you’re thirsty get yourself one of their refreshing Aguas frescas.

12:30PM: Bartaco

Fresh tortillas, fresh produce, and fresh pitchers of sangria & margaritas. This place is a bit on the pricier side, but you pay for the quality of the ingredients and the picturesque atmosphere. From plantains to guacamole, street corn to pineapple, and churros to horchata, this place has the perfect choices for appetizers, sides, entrees, and desserts. Not to mention their plentiful taco options, this place packs a flavorful punch. This cute, little taco shop is nestled on 12th South, the perfect location to fill up on all your taco & tequila needs before exploring the boutiques, markets, and murals that crowd the neighborhood.

2:45PM: Nectar Urban Cantina

My personal fave, and most visited because I used to live right up the street from this cute restaurant. This place is ½ restaurant and ½ coffee shop. It is as amazing as it sounds. When you are studying away, either working on papers or just writing a new blog post you need some brain food-- tacos are the way to go. Bonus points, because Nectar Urban Cantina also has Taco Tuesday specials. So grab ya some good old fashioned tacos, chips and queso (yummm), and a horchata latte (double yumm). They also have a great outdoor porch and green space area that is perfect on a sunny day.

5:00PM: Mas Tacos Por Favor

In English, this directly translates to, “more tacos please.” And that is exactly what I was thinking as I ate there. These tacos are dangggggg good, and you will want more and more and more, paired with none other than a Mexican Coke (yumm, real sugar cane). Don’t forget to bring some cash, because they do not accept card here! The ambiance at this place makes you feel right at home, which has a vintage vibe with the mismatched tables, chairs, and decor. If you walk right across the street and you’ll find a GREAT little stand The Sweet Bean which offers Costa Rican coffee and cotton candy, which you get to pick and spin yourself!!

7:30PM: Little Donkey
Writing this makes me sad. Because I didn’t know that when I was eating here it would be the last time I would ever eat here! They officially closed down :(. This one is a TOTAL bummer because they had rockin’ tacos, awesome drink specials, and don’t even get me started on their churros. Moment of silence for the fallen Little Donkey. And if you ever catch yourself in the Birmingham or Montgomery area pay your respects to either of their other locations. Hopefully one day soon we will see them back in business in Music City.
11:15PM: Tacos Lopez
This is the place to go if you want some straight up authentic Mexican cooking. Sit down and grab some home cookin’. You really can’t go wrong with a plate full of carne asada tacos and a Coke. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place. The best part about this place is that it’s open till 3AM, to satisfy allllll your late night taco cravings (pls come here not Taco Bell)

6 taco shops. I’m gonna have to check if that’s a new record or something. Brooke & I were sooooo full, it’s ridiculous. I may or may not have used this post as a reason to eat way too many tacos, but it was so worth it. I absolutely love going out and finding new restaurants, and support all the local chefs and business owners around Nashville. If you haven’t eaten at these restaurants, I highly recommend it.

P.S. shoutout to Brooke for always being my friend, and always eating tacos with me, love ya girlfriend.

Comment below, and let me know what your favorite taco restaurant in town is. Wait and see what we’ll do next!
