Girls Trip: Missouri

Everyone: Missouri!? Why are you going to Missouri, there’s nothing in Missouri?

Me: Oh, but on the contrary…

Ash here and it has been one whole month since I came back from a packed weekend in Springfield, Missouri where I saw my good friend Abby! Not sure if you noticed from any of my pictures from Spain but she was my amazing roommate from my time in Spain.

My mom and I drove up to good ole’ Missouri to see some of our closest friends. I spent most of my time with Abby and we spent every minute catching up, drinking coffee and reminiscing about our time in Spain together. This post will give you a glimpse of what we did in the small town of Springfield, Missouri.

My arrival was too sweet! Abby’s family welcomed me with open arms and a great homemade steak dinner with dessert, which was served at the famously known Andy’s Frozen Custard. Abby was hyping this place up for the longest time, I knew all about it while I was in Spain! I ordered their original flavor: Andy's Ozark Turtle, which dare I say… was AMAZING.

Day 1: JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS

The first night was filled on how much we missed living with each other and trying to plan another trip together to meet up our family from Spain, this was all done over two hours doing a face steam and facemasks. All we were missing was our third roomy, Diego!!

Day 2: SO MUCH IN ONE DAY!

But first coffee, Abby had soo many coffee shops to show me and the first was Mudhouse Coffee. This one in particular had a dark, quaint ambiance that stayed open till the late hour of 9 p.m.!

Brunch was at Hotel Vandivort's, The Order. The main reason we came was because of their perfect selfie lighting they had in their bathrooms! (Let us know how we did on our poses).

After about an hour of just standing in front of this awesome mirror we walked around in town square in crazy 95 degree heat, after about 10 minutes we couldn’t take the heat so we walked straight into another coffee shop, European Cafe. Which we were ALL for after living in Spain for three months together--it was only fitting. And just like typical European cafes it was cute, had open seating and my favorite, great pastries.

With the heat we just needed something refreshing, Abby ordered another iced coffee and I ordered an iced London Fog, paired with a lavender macaron. We spent time admiring the beautiful paintings on the walls (which are for sale), and trying to figure out where the owner was from...and then deciding to order another macaron or two.

After a refresher we decided to head over and visit Abby’s grandparents, who are the sweetest human beings ever --’m basically family now. This is where I saw Abby’s country girl come out, which was honestly hilarious.

Picture this: the cutest 5’3’’ girl in a striped white & blue romper in a gator racing a tractor on the road. And no, I am not kidding!! If only I could’ve pulled my phone out faster I would attach a video buttt I was holding on for dear life.

Dinner time snuck up on us which meant that we needed to start our 2-hour process to get ready *cue "Good as Hell" by Lizzo.* Dinner reservations for five (Abby’s family, my mother and her long friend, Diana) was at Nonna’s Italian Cafe, everything was “made from scratch made with love” and let me tell you guys, it was good as hell ;))

What follows dinner?... DRINKS! Abby had a couple of places for us to stop by. We went out to The Golden Girl Run Club, once we stepped in I knew we weren’t leaving anytime soon. This place was packed and with their motto of “endless summer.”

Day 3: LATE START, SAD ENDING

Brunch was the move for a late start on this day, we headed to a new restaurant in town called, Morning Day Cafe, serving breakfast and lunch items from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. After a good meal in our bellies we drove to the nearest lake area to get some sun! Even though the sun had been out and shining for the past days, it was completely overcast on the day we chose to lay out. :(

Walking around the square the previous day I had noticed a few sculptures just randomly and decided to look into it. Turns out that it is a public Sculpture Walk smack dab in the middle of Springfield. With a vision to create a museum without walls, you are able to see the sculptures on any day at any time. This started in April 2016, they rotate sculptures every year but there are some that are now permanent residents of Springfield. This is their 4th annual sculpture walk, with 22 sculptures from various artists from all over the country.

I made Sonia, Abby and Diana walk around for about 90 minutes till they were dying to have dinner. We went to a very boujee burger joint that had a great menu and to fries to die for!! Black Sheep Burger and Shakes has a full menu from beer and wine to burgers and fries, they had the funniest names for their dishes. From 'Ugly Cheeseburger,' 'Don’t go bacon my heart' and 'What the dr. ordered' are just a few of the names. When grubbing on burgers you just can't say no to fries! 'Hey Sweetie' and 'Truffle ‘n’ Parmesan' were the way to go!

After dinner we were so stuffed...but Abby insisted to purchase some Hurts Donuts (we got ours to-go). Opened 25/8 AKA whenever you have a sweet tooth, there is nothing stopping you from coming here, other than a diet! Each donut flavor is unique and comes with all the toppings you could ever need.

My time in Missouri was too sweet! See there is tons to do, so whenever you have a chance to swing by Springfield Missouri to check out any sculpture or a local coffee shop! My time with Abby was beyond amazing and I can’t wait to see here again, maybe in Spain!? Wait and see what we'll do next!
