New Nash Talent: SIC Edits
Scrolling through Facebook last week, we stumbled upon Calli, she was sharing her photo editing skills on the “Nashville Girls Group” Facebook group. We were drawn to everything about her work--it’s busy and loud, making it difficult to focus on just one part--because it all comes together so beautifully. She pulls from all different patterns, colors, textures, and elements, take a peak at this masterpiece she put together after we emailed over some photos.
Calli is an Illinois native, but also lived in Ohio and Australia (wow!!). Four years ago she packed her bags and moved to Nashville with her cat, Mayer. Right now she is looking for new opportunities as she is currently doing freelance work around the city. Calli is the outdoorsy type, you can find her boating, camping, and hiking in her free time. And of course, living in music city, she also spends time going to local shows, supporting many of her musician friends!
Back in the good ole’ MySpace days Calli spent time teaching herself how to edit photos and make layouts. Fast forward to her college years, Calli took up a few classes that taught her the ways around photoshop and video editing software. She spent some time editing presets for Instagram photos as a hobby. Then literally a week ago after being inspired by other Instagram feeds, she began taking her own personal photos and playing around with them. She fell in love with the creativity behind it, and started her own little side hustle, you can find her recent work from her Instagram page, @sic.edit. SIC is short for “Shake it Calli,” inspired by the song California Love by Tupac.
When asked how she describes her work she responded as an “artistic puzzle.” She takes photos, texts, doodles, and images together to create something new. She loves adding a new vision to a simple photo. And her inspiration? She takes it from the photos that she receives. She loves playing with the colors, the pose, the subject, all of it. She finds a theme or aesthetic, and pieces everything together bit by bit.
Calli has a hard time sitting still and just focusing on one thing at a time, so she often has something else going on while she’s editing! She loves listening to calming music, or watching a new Netflix series--her go-to right now is 13 Reasons Why.
Calli has been calling Nashville home for years now, and she has seen the sights. She loved finding a good bar in Nashville and spends most Sundays at the Red Door. She loves that it’s a Chicago bar, and can feel a little bit of home in it. When she’s downtown her go-to is Benchmark, she knows that bartenders and bands that frequent there and loves to hangout while they work and play. She recommends the frozen blue energy drink if you’re there!
