What's in the box?

   

First things first, please peep the cutest girl tribe at the Girl Tribe pop-up market that we went to earlier in the year. We literally embodied the phrase "shop til you drop." And speaking of shopping....

The subscription box fad is a huge market right now. From Hello Fresh to Ipsy, you can get everything from undies to snacks to razors delivered to your doorstep on an occasional basis. Now that the good ole college days have passed parents are less inclined to send care packages (“Mom if you’re reading this, hint-hint” - Nic, "send some banana bread please!!" -Ash), and mail is just full of boring bills and ads. Subscription boxes are a fun way to get a surprise gift from yourself in the mail from time-to-time. Most subscription boxes offer a monthly, quarterly, or annually renewal, so you can set it to fit your personal preferences.

There are plenty of ads on social media promoting the highly popular, Fab Fit Fun so we do not need a WHOLE post dedicated to that...though we both tried it out and loved our charcuterie boards, scarves, and other goodies. Instead, we wanted to go on the hunt for some subscription boxes created and crafted by some locals here in Nashville.

We were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Keep reading below to find out about these three local artisans that can brighten your month with one of their subscription packages!

1. Light Shine Candles

Candles are one of those things that you truly just “can’t have too many.” Candles can be used for personal use and as gifts. Homemade candles are exceedingly better than store bought, factory made candles. Often times those Bath & Body Works candles are sickly sweet and result in a headache. Light Shine Candles curates 2 specialty candle scents at just $30 a month, and you can request additional candles at $10 a pop. On their website you’re able to view the scheduled candle scents, giving you the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe based off the scents you might like or dislike. What’s really special about Light Shine Candles is the authenticity, each box comes with a hand-addressed letter from the creator with a life update and $5 from every box every month is donated to Global Outreach Developments International The scents we’ve received in the mail so far are Pumpkin Muffin, Rosemary Mint, Cozy Cabin, and Bergamot & Black Pepper.

   

2. Mary Kathryn Designs

If you know us, you know we love our bling, specifically earrings but we love to rock other accessories as well. Mary Kathryn of MKD is killing the game with her fun-filled, packed boxes. It comes in the cuuuutest colorful, printed box full of 2-3 jewelry items from her store, and then featured gift items (candles, bath bombs, makeup, hair products, etc…). Each month is a new surprise and we get so excited to open up our box. This is a great subscription also at $30 a month, and you can use it to add a little something special to your outfit or use the items during the holidays for girlfriends and sisters. Below is everything we got in our September box, and each month is a new surprise full of some great products!

        



3. Hey Mavens!

When people say “treat yo self,” we think about a Hey Mavens! Box. There’s nothing more satisfying than putting on hand-sewn lingerie set and feeling like the boss that you are. Hey Mavens curates a monthly box worth $75+ regular priced lingerie--it could be a combination of bralettes, undies, or her coveted robes. Prices range from $35-$49 a month depending on if you sign up for her 1-month, 3-month, 6-month or 12-month subscription. We tested out the September box and had so much fun unpacking it--she also posts the monthly surprise on her social media pages, so make sure to check it out!

   

Money and time restricted us from trying allll the fabulous boxes out there, but check out Batch USA, Fluff Nashville, and Green Door Gourmet for a variety of Nashville goods, gourmet cotton candy tubs, and farm fresh produce.
