Quarantine Spotlight: Tristi Designs

Hey all you cool cats and kittens! We hope that you are staying safe and healthy during this period of uncertainty. If you are like us you may feel as if you are drowning in all the negative news and energy. While there is ALOT of bad out there right now, we want to be a part of the good. We are starting a quarantine series that spotlights the amazing people and ideas coming from our community.

Up first on deck is a dear friend of ours: Tristi of Tristi Designs. We met her a few years ago at a Porter Flea Summer market. She is truly a light, and full of energy and curiosity. Keep reading below to learn about this radiant lady that is making a colorfusplash in the handmade jewelry world!

 Tell us about yourself:

"Hey Ya’ll!! My name is Tristi, I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I know, “unicorn” haha. When I’m not working on jewelry, I’m usually either bartending at the Ryman where I’ve worked 11 years, doing school work, or going on adventures with friends. Riding bicycles is also one of my favorite things to do for fun! Something I wouldn’t find interesting about myself but others seem to notice is that I rearrange the furniture in my house alot. Do you think that’s just my creative brain working hard? Lol"

 Tell us about your business:

"My friend was getting married and wanted a set of expensive coasters that I couldn’t really afford at that time. I decided I would make her coasters instead! She loved them, and with the extra clay I made some cool rings. I posted one of the rings on my personal Instagram, and someone wanted to buy it immediately.

That ignited a fire in myself that I had been searching years for. Shortly after, I posted a bunch of my new rings, and RAW Artists Group reached out to me and asked me to be in their showcase. As a new artist, I was extremely excited and I deeply believe they helped change my life.

Art has always been my “hobby” and I never really thought I could actually make money until I started working with polymer clay. I still have no clue how to run a business and that is my biggest challenge right now. Despite that, I am extremely happy to make jewelry that makes other people excited. There is no better feeling in this world than seeing a person so excited to wear my jewelry they put it on immediately. I’m just so grateful I can do something I love and that people enjoy.

I hope to grow my business tremendously in the future. My grandma and I have always loved fun jewelry and I just hope I can inspire people to wear what they love and break outside of their fashion norms."

What are your hopes in the future for your craft?

"In the future I plan to get better at running a small handmade business. I want to find a more ideal workspace that doesn’t leave me in such solitude. H
opefully it will be able to grow enough that jewelry can be more of a part-time job or even full-time.

What I’m learning right now is that people can sense when you are doing something you love and I think it inspires people to follow their own dreams which makes me so happy. Even if jewelry making doesn’t work out for me I am so glad I got to experience this chapter of my life."

How has this quarantine season affected your craft?

"Quarantine season has definitely affected every part of me. I wish I could say I’ve been extremely productive and I’ve had a million new ideas but that just isn’t the case. I have been trying to find inspiration but most days I just want to sleep and wake up back to normal life. When school is finished I hope I will find a better working solution."

What have you been doing to keep yourself busy during  this quarantine season?

"I am in school full-time so if I haven’t been doing homework it's been hard to say what else I’ve been doing. I am an extrovert who loves to engage with others so this experience has truly been a struggle for me in all aspects of life. I have been buying magazines and rearranging my office to inspire me to create but it has for sure been a challenge. I try to sketch any idea that comes to mind, and I find inspiration in some of my fave TV shows now."

 How can we support you?

"I think the best way I can be supported by readers and our community is by sharing photos of the jewels you love to wear and tell me how they inspire you.

I’m also doing a sale right now for 50% anything on my website that will run until May 1st. I might extend it...we shall see ;-), the code is
